چکیده

We measured the fluxes of several hydrocarbon species above a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) stand using disjunct eddy covariance technique with proton transfer reaction – mass spectrometry. The measurements were conducted during four days in July at SMEAR II research station in Hyytiälä, Finland. Compounds which showed significant emission fluxes were methanol, acetaldehyde, acetone, and monoterpenes. A stochastic Lagrangian transport model with simple chemical degradation was applied to assess the sensitivity of the above canopy fluxes to chemistry. According to the model, the chemical degradation had a minor effect on the fluxes measured in this study but may have a major effect on the vertical flux profiles of more reactive compounds, such as sesquiterpenes. The monoterpene fluxes derived using M81 and M137 had a systematic difference with the latter one being higher. These fluxes followed the traditional exponential temperature dependent emission algorithm but were considerably higher than the fluxes measured before at the same site. The normalized monoterpene emission potentials at 30C, obtained using the temperature dependence coefficient of 0.09◦C−1, were 2.0μg g dw h −1 and 2.5μg g dw h −1, for fluxes derived using M81 and M137.

Modeling the Impact of Canopy Structure on the Spatial Variability of Net Forest Precipitation and Interception Loss in Scots Pine Stands

The aim of this study was to identify the most significant stand parameters affecting net forest precipitation and interception loss in Scots pine stands and to develop multiple linear regression models (MLR) that can be used for practical purposes to predict net forest precipitation and interception rates in northern Germany using forest inventory data and gross precipitation. In the model, th...

Coherent Momentum Exchange above and within a Scots Pine Forest

Biorthogonal decomposition (BOD) is used to detect and study synchronous coherent structures occurring at multiple levels in the vertical momentum flux (u1w1) within and above a planted Scots pine forest during a 12-week continuous measurement period. In this study, the presented method allowed for the simultaneous detection and quantification of the number of coherent structures (N), their dur...

C2-C10 hydrocarbon emissions from a boreal wetland and forest floor

Emissions of various C2-C10 hydrocarbons (VOCs) and halogenated hydrocarbons (VHOCs) from a boreal wetland and a Scots pine forest floor in south-western Finland were measured by the static chamber technique. Isoprene was the main non-methane hydrocarbon emitted by the wetland, but small emissions of ethene, propane, propene, 1-butene, 2-methylpropene, butane, pentane and hexane were also detec...

Validation of eddy flux measurements above the understorey of a pine forest

Measurements of turbulent exchange in the understorey of a forest canopy are necessary to understand and model both the functioning of the lower stratum and its contribution to turbulent exchange at the whole canopy scale. Eddy covariance measurements of eddy fluxes just above the floor of a forest canopy must be thoroughly validated, given the particular conditions prevailing there. Our object...

3D modelling of forest canopy structure for remote sensing simulations in the optical and microwave domains

A detailed 3D structural model of a conifer forest canopy was developed in order to simulate the reflectance (optical) and backscatter (microwave) signals measured remotely. We show it is feasible to model forest canopy scattering using detailed 3D models of tree structure including the location and orientation of individual needles. An existing structural growth model of Scots pine (Pinus sylv...
